Self-Reflection: Why AI can never replace us?

Updated: Jan 21, 2023

Answered by Artificial Intelligence itself!

I was going to write an article about self-reflection. Generally, I would search for information on the web, try to find different definitions and content in several quality sources, and end up making an understandable rehash of the topic providing value with a kind of "how to" step-by-step.

While I was on content research streak this time, I got into openAI, the new artificial intelligence chat that came out a few months ago. With its prodigious response in market, I also took a shot and asked several questions. The response of this artificial intelligence has overwhelmed me. Honestly, I couldn't do any better. OpenAI answered my questions in record time, arranging the answer in perfect English, in clear and understandable sections, and providing a more empathetic conclusion to each answer.

What is Self-Reflection?

OpenAI told me that self-reflection is the process of thinking and analyzing one's thoughts, behaviors and feelings, and it is a very potent tool for personal growth and development. It allows us to understand ourselves better, gain a better understanding of ourselves and identify improvement areas.

How do I start with Self-Reflection process?

When I asked OpenAI how to begin a process of self-reflection, then it instructed me to find a quiet place where I can be alone and free from distractions, think about positive and negative past situations, and consider how they have influenced me and what I have learned from them. To connect with my emotions, and write down my thoughts in a journal to make sense of them, to seek feedback from people close to me to get a different perspective, to consider how my values influence me and what I have learned from them, and finally to consider how my values influence my behaviors is the process of self-reflection.

How is Self-Reflection different from Introspection?

I am not quite sure about the difference between self-reflection and introspection, and upon asking openAI, it tells me that although they are similar terms, introspection is a more specific and abstruse process that involves analyzing emotions in a more focused and intense way. I understand that thoughts have a higher degree of depth, but with this answer, I still do not have a clear perspective.

Why is self-reflection crucial?

On how self-reflection can change my life, openAI very intelligently pointed out that self-reflection leads me to improve my self-confidence, self-awareness, my relationships, my decision-making and allows me to lead a fuller and more meaningful life. Wow.

Any tips on prompts to help self-reflect?

Finally, I asked openAI to give me some valuable questions to help me self-reflect and ideas of apps where I can keep track of my goals. It responded with 8 key questions and a series of apps to track my goals (Trello, Evernote, Todoist, Habitica, Asana).

I honestly cannot compete with artificial intelligence. But I refuse to copy and paste or rehash all this information. So, in an act of self-reflection, I asked myself and openAI, what can I bring to the topic of self-reflection or any other topic here in the future with artificial intelligence already exists?

My answer to this painful question is the following; I can contribute to the topic by bringing my experience, my failures and successes, my sense of humor and irony, and my personal opinion or insights on each of the topics. OpenAI answers me about critical thinking, effective communication, and unique and original perspectives from humans vs machines. And my final question for openAI…

Can AI also Self-Reflect?

In case you are wondering, the questions you can ask yourself for a better self-reflection (now that the end of the year is approaching) are:

  1. What were some of the highlights of the past year? What were some of the challenges and difficulties I faced?

  2. What did I learn about myself over the past year?

  3. What are my values and priorities? Have they changed over the past year?

  4. What are my goals for the coming year? How can I work towards achieving them?

  5. What are some things I would like to change or improve in my life? What steps can I take to make these changes?

  6. What are some things I can do to take better care of myself in the coming year?

  7. How can I be more present and mindful in the coming year? What practices can I adopt to help with this?

  8. What are some things I can do to be more supportive and caring towards others in the coming year?

So for me, it is clear: Humans 1- Machine 0….

Which side are you on?

  • Of course, Humans!

  • Damn Human! AI is the future.

  • Peace can be found inbetween!
